Why People Ignore Banner Ads And Link Text Links

Five years ago people thought banner ads were really awesome, but the perception of banner ads has changed a lot since then.  Banner ads were once very successful, but then a lot of nonsense companies and products were advertised with banner ads and sort of stripped the marketing method of its once pristine reputation.  People now associate most banner ads as junk, things that aren’t worth their clicks, and even marketing ploys that allow for pop ups and spyware to be downloaded to their computer.  Overall, banner ads have gotten a bad name for themselves because a few terrible marketers went crazy with nonsense ads.

Text links are the hot thing right now and people like them because they are a direct way of getting people to your site.  People know that when they see a text link that it’s likely relevant to what they are reading or looking at on the current page.  The text link has just proved to be a more reliable form of obtaining more information, instead of being led astray by promises of new computers, new cars, or gift certificates.  Text links are straightforward and don’t seek to mislead the consumer, and that goes a long way.

We live in a time where people don’t want their time wasted with nonsense marketing and pop up ploys, instead we want straight forward information and control over our online experience.  No, not every text link is worthwhile, but a great deal of them are very informative and right on the money as far as what the consumer is looking for, and that is the big difference between banner ads and text links and the way people feel about them.
